View of Hobart at settlement,
1804
This water-colour painting depicts Hobart's
natural harbour at settlement. Hunter Island is seen here with its low-tide isthmus on which
cargo is being carried ashore. In the insuing years, convicts would wade through this shallow section carrying
human freight on their backs! It is in this facinity, Hobart's "birth-place", that
your evening walk commences.

IXL Jam
Factory and the "Jam King"
Occupying part of the former Hunter Island site is the IXL Atrium,
exquisite after dark. Arguably the most successful renovation in Hobart, it is named in honour of the famous IXL
Jam empire which once engulfed Hunter Street. Be inspired as your guide relays the true story of Mr Henry
Jones, once a boy on the factory floor and why he became "the Jam King".

Constitution Dock and "Sydney
to Hobart"
Known for its enduring link with the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, Constitution
Dock is the most prestigious final berthing place for this world-famous race in December. A sleepy, unheralded dock through
the year, it is graced by the charming fish punts and the "May Queen" ketch, Australia's oldest sail trading
vessel.

Convict Chain Gangs & Reclaimed
Land
Every section of this historic cove walk is on land that was simply
not there two hundred years ago, and much of this transformation was reclaimed land originally from the picks,
shovels and sweat of convict chain-gang labour. This photographic copy of an early Hobart engraving depicts
a "Hobart Town Chain Gang" under watchful guard.
This enchanting Hobart Tour - Evening Harbour Walk also
explores the Cove's fascinating links with Aboriginals, bushrangers and their public executions, the
charming Waterman trade long lost to our modern times, the historic Cartela and steam racing, the heroic age of
Antarctic exploration, Hobart Rivulet's original entry site, and even the more recent tragic 1975 Tasman Bridge
disaster. This is truly a unique historic, cultural and pictorial experience where old and new worlds collide. Book
your tour now.
